Current Obsessions

Current Obsessions

2012/05/16

My hands have never been the prettiest and I have this horrible thin nails that split tear and break just thinking about them.
I go through burst where I take very good care of them till they break and I give up. I have been considering getting a gel layer, or even those gell polishes you bake on, but has not figured out how to remove them. Seems like soaking it in acetone doesn’t always do the trick.
I have had some fibre nails with French tips... but my flat fingers did not look well with white stripes on them, besides being a Tinker it just do not work to have very long nails, they get in the way of doing things.
Besides I favour very dark and black nails and on those pretty looonnggg nails it would just look witchy.

Here Is my current attempt to make it look presentable.

I love the new trend where you only paint your nails in two contrasting or complementary colours.

I recently picked up two new polishes to try.
Essie  Buy me a cameo- a beautiful rose gold colour and L.A Girl Rock star Double Platinum- A glitter polish.

Essie - Buy Me A Cameo                                         L.A. Girl Double Platinum

I painted two coats of Buy me a Cameo when it dried I selected a few nails and added a top coat of Double platinum. You can add two coats if you like the sparkle to be more, but getting 3 coats of nail polish to dry on my nails is a miracle in it self. Not fiddling for more than 5 minutes is close to impossible.

And The Finished result is a nice rose gold glow with sparkle detail.

I love the Idea of Glossybox.  . It was as always beautifully packaged. This box just makes me giddy from the time it arrives in the courier bag. Wrapped up in tissue paper tied with the prettiest pink bow.

I love the Gatineau trial size samples I received. I love good skin care products but I never buy them for fear of wasting money on skincare that I cannot use. Which I have done in the past.

I looovvveee My scarf, I’m a scarf person so that was an easy one. Its beigy and florally with little tassels on the sides. A hint of glitter and I can brighten up my normal drab office wear with a hint of flowers this winter.

The Beaute lip colour is a nice deep red. Aptly decribed as Sangria. I immediately coloured in my lips and walked around pouting my lips. It has a sharpner in the cap. A nice extra for a absent minded person like me :)

The nail polish is standing on my makeup table trying hard to convince me that I should dare that colour.. It’s a Glitter nail polish in mustard yellow. I do not know if there were other colours sent out.. But it kind of feels like a colour that was not very popular and left over that was sent to us.

Another strange thing to me is the sample sachets we received, combined with the voucher. You would think they would send you the samples of the product in the voucher that they want you to buy.

The derma scan is a great gift if you live close to Bryanston. My delivery address is at work and it is in the Eastrand. But I live in Pretoria and if I understand correctly your box is filled with things that you will be able to find close to your delivery address.

My overview of the May Glossybox.

Did I get my money worth? Yes. The scarf alone was more than the R130 the box cost me.

I feel that the idea of the box is to try high end products. ( I love watching the Youtube Videos )
Trial or full sizes. The two months that I have received the Glossy box it only half way delivered on this expectation. Half of the products is not high end , it is sample sizes that you can ask for at any beauty counter and the full size products, but it’s budget brands from clicks, I do like the full sized products as it makes up for the lack of trial sizes on the high end products.

I do not like going into shops and having sales people all over me at the beauty counters, and for that reason I think the beauty boxes is a great treat. I can try these high end products and if I like it buy them without having a sales person trying to sell me more than I want. And I do not run the risk of buying products I do not like.

Would I buy another one..? I probably will, just like the lucky packets from my child hood I will be leared into the idea of something great in a packet all wrapped in pink. I will however wait a few months to see the reviews on their site.

BeautyBoxes South Africa

 8/05/2012

So exited, My glossybox has arrived.

It’s horrible to have it come to work and stare at you the whole day.. with puppy eyes.
And the worst part it they teach it your name before they send it..

ADEL...... ADEL....... ADEL...open me!!

Yes I’m that crazy...

So this will be my first review on the SA GlossyBox. I drooled about the UK and USA Glossybox and other subscription services. So I decided to try a glossybox a few months ago.
I was a bit disappointed though. But I decided to not be sceptical and give it another try this month and see if I like it more.

I will also follow that up with another subscription review for RubyBox  that I will try out for the first time this month. This is like My Birthday all over again.

I have seen another subscription GlamBox..  I will keep my eye on it before I subscribe.

This is a trend I see taking up some speed in South Africa that I’m very happy about. It’s like a lucky Packet for Grown up Girls. And I loved my lucky packets when I was a little girl.

Anyhoooeee.. I'm excited and Mr Glossy is tormenting me. Will take some Pictures and let you know what was in my pretty little pink box this month.
Read you later

Quickly on how it works:

It’s a subscription service, and  you can choose from three different types of subscriptions.
Depending on which one you choose , a monthly Rubybox is sent to your door with 4-5 Luxe Beauty Samples.

So it arrived on Thursday, and not given to me by a co worker till Friday, left at work by me until Monday.
This after it taunted me the whole day..

OPPPEEENNN MMEEE!!! I’m Pretty and black with sparkly pink detail.. OOOppppeeennn ME!
Yes Boxes Talk to me. Closed boxes, wrapped boxes, posted Boxes. Christmas is torture. Pure Torture.

It arrives wrapped in a brown carton box with a pretty pink RubyBox logo on it, then you slide out an even prettier black box.

Opening the box you will find your surprise for the month wrapped in fuchsia pink tissue paper ! Yay! I get exited all over thinking about the wrapped boxes arriving every month. Makes a girl feel special!
Inside the box a little card explaining each product and the price of product if you would like to purchase it.

First Thing I noticed was the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Total Repair 10 daily moisturiser. A full sized product.
I love good moisturisers. I have a very difficult skin that is very prone to being dry, but heavy creams make me break out like a teenager. So I'm always keen on trying new moisturisers.

Latley I have been keen on trying South African products as well as "green" products.
But our local ranges tend to be on the very pricey side.
The Africology Cleansing Gel has captured my attention and I can not wait trying it out and if it delivers I will purchase myself a bottle. This was sent in a nice 25ml luxe sample size.

I have been in search of a fragrance to fall in love with. And these samples with the spray top is a good way of exploring my way to the perfect scent.

I have long hair and it's something I do take care of. I have recently seen Aussie products is now available to the South African Market. I have yet to try it, but in various YouTube Videos Aussie products has been given high ratings. We were given a squishy bag with the 3 minute Miracle Frizz remedy Deep Treatment. This product is available from Clicks.

As a whole I like all the products in the Rubybox. Was it worth the money? Yes the Full Size product is much more than the price for the box.
The Products in the box are all high to very high end products recognizable in the market. I love the packaging and presentation. The only disappointment was the Squishy bag of Aussie product, as to me that is not a Luxe sample, and I will have to make a point to use it and not have it hang around my dresser and end up in the trash can.

Would I buy it again?
Yes!! I love this concept and the idea of a Lucky packet for older girls are just something that makes me all giddy and exited.

Thanx Rubies for my lovely box this month.
